Potato Lake (29024300) is located seven miles north of Park Rapids, Minnesota, in Hubbard County and has 2,100 acres of surface area and a maximum depth of 95 feet. There is a DNR concrete public access off County Road 40 on the north shore, and a County concrete public access on the northern tip of the west arm off County Road 40.
The Minnesota DNR has classified Minnesota's lakes into 43 different types based on physical, chemical, and other characteristics. Potato Lake is in lake class 25. Other area lakes in this same classification include Big Sand, Lower Bottle, Kabekona, and Long.

Potato Lake is a beautifully clear, irregular shaped lake that is located seven miles from the busy city of Park Rapids, Minnesota. The lake has been considered to take on the shape of an elongated elephant's head, and has a nice variety of shoreline, ranging from shaded trees, rocks, and sand that is perfect for relaxing on the beach. Anglers and fishermen are attracted to the lake because of the changing depths and diversity of fish that can be found in the waters. Potato Lake is a good lake for water sports like jetskiing, boating, canoeing, tubing, and swimming. There is also plenty of activities for visitors to engage in the surrounding area.
Vagabond Village Campground is located in Park Rapids and overlooks the scenic Potato Lake. There are over 100 campsites offered at this campground, accommodating both tents and RVs. There are two large level full hook up sites, two clean and heated restrooms with hot showers and laundry, and three available shelters. A picnic table and fire ring can be found at each site.
On the grounds, there is a tennis court, large heated pool, volley ball court, playground with a sand box, an area for horse shoes, a basketball court, and a game room - activities for all ages to enjoy. There are also trails available for walking and biking, and a par 3 golf course located half a mile from the Campground. For those who like to have fun out on the lake, the campground offers pontoons, canoes, boats, paddle boats, and motors to rent along with gas, a bait shop, and a large concrete launch ramp for guests. The Lodge is a nice and friendly place to relax and have some ice cream or watch television.
Park Rapids and it's neighboring towns is home to activities and events of all kinds. The Heartland Trail is an extensive trail that winds through lakes and forests, covering 49 paved miles from Park Rapids to Cass Lake. There are casinos, national forests, parks and playgrounds, music and theater events, golf courses, restaurants, and shopping possibilities.
Itasca State Park is located in Park Rapids, and is Minnesota's oldest state park. The headwaters of the Mississippi River reside here, and great towering pines are considered national landmarks. There are many historic sites within the Park and tours are available. The Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center offers outdoor interpretive displays and the Headwaters Cafe for visitors to relax and take in the scenery. The Park also has naturalist programs and other activities scheduled year-round.
Northern Pine Lodge is located on Potato lake, six miles from Park Rapids. The Lodge offers two beautiful log cabins and 19 standard cabins that have a great view of the lake and surrounding scenery and wildlife. Each of the cabins are modern and completely furnished with kitchen facilities and gas/electric heating. Each cabin also has a deck with a picnic table and barbeque grill. The laundry facility is coin operated and located on the grounds near the main Lodge.
At the Lodge there are activities for every member of the family or group. There is fishing and other water activities, a tennis court, hiking and biking trails with wild blueberries and raspberries for picking, nearby golf courses, and plenty of childrens activities ranging from sand castle contests and nature hikes to fun arts and crafts held in the Lodge building.
